Needless redesign

So theyve gone from a simple looking extremely readable design to a sophisticated design that is much harder to read. Why why why do you put a gray background under the black token value? And make the gray the darkest right under the digits? I think the digits are now also smaller than they used to be. Why oh why oh why.

Why cant they keep the stupid graphic designers out of a perfectly working app?
